GoGo Yubari
Kill Bill Vol. 1
time completed:
End of May 2004
hours spent: 6 for the outfit, countless for the ball
worn at: Aveda Frederics Tour: Van Michael Show, Anime
Expo 2004
Why I
chose to make this costume:
The Van Michael
Salon hired me to be GoGo Yubari for their annual Hair Show for
a "Kill Bill" themed Performance. I would be in charge
of getting together the costume and training with the mace ball.
Van Michael would take care of me and my hair (cut, color and
style) during the weekend of the show whch was a part of the annual
Aveda Frederics Tour in Cincinnati, Ohio.
How I made this costume:
I altered a skirt to fit me, and bought a navy colored Blazer
with pockets that was over 5 sizes too large but had potential
to look right. I took in the Blazer and shortened it to fit, installed
the gold buttons, and made a bow with my own pattern. The patch
was embroidered by Meg
Hanson, the same design as in the Movie but showing the Van
Michael symbol instead of GoGo's school initials. I already owned
the socks and shirt, and our Creative Director, Baker, bought
pink shoes specific for the stage show. For my next con I will
of course have the white Nike sneakers.
Now as to the mace - Bountyhardware.com
created a custom ball on chains that could be swung on stage without
safety issues. It's just heavy enough to have momentum, but the
spikes are soft to the touch. For more pictures of the GoGo mace,

My thoughts on this costume:
It was an unforgettable
Show and I am so proud and honored to have been a part of it.
I saw Kill Bill on it's Opening night and loved it, and to receive
the opportunity to "re-live" the story as GoGo who was
my favorite character anyway was just incredible. Baker had a
wonderful vision and he put a great amount of effort into the
music, costume and set design and choreography. He also made the
huge wig for O-ren's character at the end. Vesperi
by Melissa Coffey created the yellow tracksuit and white flowing
gown.
