This amusing
interview was conducted over Instant Messenger for the World
of Anime Chatterbox. The following was copied from the Chatterbox
page with me. Thank you to ReyRey and World of Anime!
REAL-LIFE
ANGEL
Multi-talented.
That's one word to describe Yaya Han. A cosplayer for only less than
three years, Yaya's taken the cosplay world by storm with her breath-taking
outfits. Not only is Yaya a wonderful cosplayer, she's also an incredible
artist. Rey-Rey and Yaya had a very interesting rendezvous at the Ani-Magic
2001 episode. Watch what happens next in this follow-up to that meeting
in Lancaster.
Rey-Rey:
The last time we talked was Ani-Magic. What have you done since?
Yaya: Since Ani-Magic, I had a nice long break from the con and cosplay
season. Until this past weekend's Ohayocon. I did a lot of reading in
the meantime and worked on my website a lot. About a month ago, I started
making a costume again and preparing for this year's con-season.
RR: Was Ohayocon an enjoyable experience?
Y: Yes, it was. For one, it was a con I had never been to. It was small
and I had the chance to hang out with people. It was also the first
con since 3-4 months for me so I was very excited about that.
RR: What's next on your list?
Y: *panics* Katsucon in a month.
RR: Do you really mean to go to that many conventions?
Y: No ^^;... it just works out that way. There are cons I go to in order
to see friends I don't get to be with often. Others are good for me
because I am also an artist and I try to promote and sell my work. For
two, I have already been asked to come as a Guest; something I am very
excited about. Thank God some cons are close by or local, and I usually
make the money I spend back with pieces of art in the auctions.
RR: Making your own manga soon? Like "The Adventures of Super Yaya"
or something? ^_^
Y: LOL!! I... don't think so ^^. Like people would be interested XD.
I have already been published once with a Shoujo Manga, in Germany.
And I am currently working on a new project
RR: I would! Then El Bandido could be thrown in the mix. ^__^
Y: LOL! He sure would be.
RR: What kind of cosplay are you doing in the future?
Y: I am not sure..., I sorta make things as I go along. I mean my costumes
cover a pretty wide range of categories, from anime to J-Rock to originals.
I think I will venture more into designing original outfits in the future
because that's where I can be the most creative, but I definitely have
more anime/game/j-music costumes planned. The only requirement I have
is - it must be a challenge of some sort ^_~.
RR: You're very popular in convention parts. How does that feel?
Y: Yikes, I'm still not used to that. At Ohayocon, most people knew
me or knew about me and I was constantly stopped for chit-chats, advice,
questions..., I enjoy being with people but sometimes it still amazes
me just how many strangers (to me) know me. But overall, it's very flattering
and I am grateful that they like my work. Sankyuu! ^o^
RR: What was the scariest question you ever got from a fan?
RR: And, no, don't count my scary questions. ^__^
Y: LOL
Y: Actually that'd be at Ohayocon. I was wearing Lulu, and at least
two guys asked me "Ok, I've been wondering this ever since I started
playing the game - How does this dress stay on you?" I'm like "It's
a corset, it laces in the back" They're like "DAMN! I lost
a bet!" Oh, the request for Lulu's victory pose from some guys
was pretty scary as well, but since I worked hard to get the accurate
cleavage, I complied .
RR: How does THAT dress stay on you?
Y: LOL! *slaps*
RR: >___<
RR: Anyway, have you watched any anime lately? ^__^
Y: Ack, I have not had the chance to watch much anime at all lately...,
but a nice friend of mine just sent me the entire series of "Noir"
and I've been watching that heehee.
RR: How do you like Noir?
Y: I've only seen the first few but it's very interesting. the story-telling,
the music... I definitely want to see more.
RR: Favorite series of all-time.
Y: That's a hard one. Hm..., I have more than one..., and if I have
to narrow it down, it's be Escaflowne, Versailles no Bara, and Trigun
RR: How long will you do cosplay?
Y: Oh, hopefully, for many years to come! I hardly think of when I'll
stop..., though I understand that one day I will (then again, everyone
will ^_~). I am just really enjoying myself and I am interested in seeing
where I can go, and how much more I can learn. I have enough plans to
keep me very busy for the next 2 - 3 years XD
RR: Cosplaying as real people seems to be a trend nowadays. Would you
ever cosplay as Rey-Rey?
Y: LOL! it is indeed a trend! Sure I'd cosplay ya, but I'd have to get
to know more of the essence of Rey-Rey so I can capture it better ^_~.
RR: Ok. A few more quick questions.
Y: Hai.
RR: Favorite food.
Y: Er... Sour Candy, Soy Beans, Sushi... it's on my website ^_~
RR: Last movie you watched.
Y: Harry Potter (again).
RR: What color spankies are you wearing?
Y: Er.... O_O
Y: *slaps*
RR: LOL
RR: Rey-Rey. Stud or dud?
Y: Both!
RR: LOL!
RR: Any words to all your fans and friends. ^_^
Y: Yikes, not sure if I have fans, LOL... but to those who have supported
me and enjoyed my work, thanks a lot! I hope that you'll like my future
projects! And if you spot me at a con, come and say hi! I don't bite
^_~.
RR: Yeah, so people. If you see me around cons, you're likely to see
Yaya right behind me checking me out.
Y: Yes, of course! *coughs*
RR: LOL! All kidding aside, thanks for your time, Yaya. ^__^
Y: You are more than welcome! Thanks for your interest!
